Learn about the attributes of a Rhombus. Find the definition, example problems, and practice problems at Thinkster Math.

Why is this concept useful?

Professions such as landscapers, car, fashion, interior, and game designers use rhombi.

Where does this concept fit into the curriculum?

3rd grade Identifying by attributes; 6th grade Finding the area given the length of the bisectors; 8th grade finding the perimeter, the area, the angles, and the length of the bisectors.

What is a Rhombus? A rhombus is a quadrilateral.

  • The sides of a rhombus are congruent.
  • Opposite sides are parallel
  • The opposite angles of a rhombus are equal to each other.
  • The adjacent angles are supplementary.
  • In a rhombus, diagonals bisect each other at right angles.
  • The diagonals of a rhombus bisect these angles.

How can we use the concept?

  • The sides of a rhombus are congruent.
  • Opposite sides are parallel
  • The opposite angles of a rhombus are equal to each other.
  • The adjacent angles are supplementary.
  • In a rhombus, diagonals bisect each other at right angles.
  • The diagonals of a rhombus bisect these angles.

Finding the area of a Rhombus

A=d1xd22A = \frac{d1 x d2}{2}

d1 = diagonal

d2 = diagonal 2

Sample Math Problems

Choose the statements that are true about rhombus?

  1. All sides of a rhombus are equal.
  2. In a rhombus, diagonals bisect each other at right angles.
  3. All angles are acute.
  4. Opposite sides are parallel.

Correct Options:  A, B, D

KaTeX can only parse string typed expression
c2=52+122c^2 = 5^2+ 12^2

c2=25+144c^2 = 25 + 144

c2=169c^2 = 169

(c2)=\sqrt ( c^2 )=
(169)\sqrt ( 169)

c = 13

AR = 13   Since all sides are congruent, CA = 13, RS = 13, CS = 13

Perimeter = 4s

=   4 x 13

= 52
