Multiples of 170

Multiples of 170 are any number that can be divided by 170 without any remainder. In other words, any number that can be split into multiple 170s, without anything extra. Another way to understand multiples is to compare them to counting an object. For instance, I may have one ball, or I may have six balls, but I can’t have 3 and a half balls.

Methods

Methods for Finding Multiples:

The most common way to find multiples is to use multiplication. Multiplication of whole numbers always results in multiples of the numbers being multiplied. To find the first few multiples of 170, you could just multiply 170 by 1, then 2, then 3, and so on, until you have as many multiples as you would like. This is shown in the next section.

For younger students that don’t know how to multiply yet, the same result can be found just by counting, or skip-counting. To find multiples of any number, just add the number to itself multiple times. For instance, if you want to find the multiples of 170, start at 170 and keep adding 170 over and over: 170, 340, 510, 680, and so on. Each of these numbers is a multiple of 170.

There are an endless number of multiples! You can keep using either of these methods to find as many multiples as you would like.
