Opposite numbers are numbers that are the exact same distance from zero, in opposite directions. Numbers that are opposites are called zero pairs.

How can we use the concept: Finding the opposite of a number is quite simple: the opposite of a number is the same digit, just opposite signs.
Example: 5 and -5 are opposites, the 5 did not change, just the sign.
Example: -20 and 20 are opposites because they are both 20 spaces away from zero on a number line.
Example One: Find the opposite of 12.5
Answer: -12.5
Example 2: Find the opposite of -2/3
Answer: 2/3
Example 3: The opposite of 4,325.78 is:
Answer: -4,325.78
Example 4: The opposite of -17/4 is:
Answer: 17/4
