Math Tutor Explains: Multiples of 1255

Multiples of 1255 are numbers that can be evenly divided by 1255 without leaving a remainder. A math tutor might explain it as the result of multiplying 1255 by whole numbers. Another way to think about multiples is by comparing them to counting objects—for example, you can have one ball or six balls, but you can’t have three and a half balls.

Methods for Finding Multiples from a Math Tutor

The most common way to find multiples shared by a math tutor is to use multiplication. Multiplication of whole numbers always results in multiples of the numbers being multiplied. To find the first few multiples of 1255, you could just multiply 1255 by 1, then 2, then 3, and so on, until you have as many multiples as you would like. This is shown in the next section.

For younger students that don’t know how to multiply yet, the same result can be found just by counting, or skip-counting. To find multiples of any number, just add the number to itself multiple times. For instance, if you want to find the multiples of 1255, start at 1255 and keep adding 1255 over and over: 1255, 2510, 3765, 5020, and so on. Each of these numbers is a multiple of 1255.

There are an endless number of multiples! You can keep using either of these methods to find as many multiples as you would like.

So, the first 10 multiples of 1255 are: 1255, 2510, 3765, 5020, 5020, 7530, 8785, 10040, 11295 and 12550.

• The primary multiple of any number is itself.

• The result of any multiplication of whole numbers is a multiple of all the numbers being multiplied together. As such, every multiple is also a multiple of another number.

• Every multiple of even numbers will also be even.

• The successive multiples of odd numbers alternate between odd and even numbers.

• You can also find negative multiples of a number by multiplying by negative numbers.
