We realize how important it is for parents to be involved in their children’s academics in order to help them succeed. This is why our coaches have two conference calls a month with families in our Guided Learning plan.
Kids all over the world use Thinkster for many different reasons. Parents have the ability
to shape the program to best fit their needs. It is important to be clear with the coach as to what your child’s needs are and to explain why you are using the program, such as for filling learning gaps, boosting confidence, supplementing schoolwork, or advancing.
You should also communicate your short and long-term goals. If you want your daughter to master percentage conversions within a set time period, your coach will discuss this during your conference call. They will recommend study plan changes that will help her meet the goal.
While our coaches begin to learn why your child may be struggling with a particular topic, there may be more you are witnessing at home as your child completes their work. The conference call is a great opportunity for you to share these frustrations with your child’s coach. This will help the coach adjust the learning plan as needed.
If your son is having trouble on a worksheet, does he feel comfortable reaching out to his coach? While Thinkster does have a flag feature (the hand icon) within the worksheets, not all children are comfortable communicating the trouble they are facing to their coach.
Additionally, you may notice things about your child’s behavior or attitude as they work on a particular topic. Conveying your concerns to the coach will help shape assignments so that they appropriately challenge and motivate your child.
We encourage Thinkster kids to join the conference calls. It is a great way for the coach and student to get to know each other and establish a bond. Kids love getting to know the teacher who is reviewing their assignments and sending them feedback.
Having your child join the call will also help develop ownership of the program, and your child will become more comfortable letting the coach know what topics they are having trouble with and what assignments they would like more of.Be sure to set up a recurring bi-weekly conference call with your child’s coach. If you haven’t had a call with your child’s caoch recently, send them a quick email to schedule one this week! Keep in touch with the coach to ensure that your learning goals are being met and that the study plan created is leading to the academic successes you wish to see.
